Azerbaijan signs another important CoE agreement
As part of the visit of Azerbaijan`s Minister of Justice Fikrat Mammadov to Strasbourg, the signing ceremony of the second additional protocol to the European Convention on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters has been held with the participation of the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe Bjorn Berge and other officials.
Deputy Secretary General Bjorn Berge hailed cooperation with Azerbaijan, adding that the Council of Europe would hold the Summits of Heads of State and Government of the Council of Europe in May this year.
Minister Fikrat Mammadov noted that the Azerbaijani lands liberated in the wake of the 44-day Patriotic War had been contaminated with landmines by Armenia, which left 300 citizens of Azerbaijan killed and injured. He presented to the Secretary General a special book on this matter prepared by the ANAMA.
Azerbaijani minister also met with the President of the European Court of Human Rights Siofra O'Leary discuss fruitful cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Court. Fikrat Mammadov provided detailed information about the progressive judicial and legal reforms implemented in the country.
The event was also attended by permanent representative of Azerbaijan to the Council of Europe Fakhraddin Ismayilov and the judge of the European Court from Azerbaijan Latif Huseynov.
