Legal-treaty basis of cooperation
The European Cultural Convention was the first Council of Europe treaty ratified by Azerbaijan on 25 April 1997.
Azerbaijan became a Party to one of the most important and influential human rights documents – the European Convention on Human Rights on 15 April 2002, and respectively accepted the jurisdiction of the European Court of Human Rights.
To date, Azerbaijan has signed and ratified 65 treaties of the Council of Europe, signed seven more and is subject to a number of Council of Europe mechanisms and bodies.

The most recent ratification instrument submitted by Azerbaijan concerns the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse, to which Azerbaijan is a Party since 1 April 2020.
